Synchronized Swimming

When you talk about synchronized swimming, you are talking about a combination of swimming with gymnastics and dance. The entire course of synchronised swimming consists of swimmers (either in the groups of twos or threes or even more and sometimes individuals as well) who are to perform synchronized routines that are carefully choreographed and consist of elaborate and dramatic moves in the water, the carriage of which synchronizes with music. The synchronized swimmers are given days to practice before displaying their final routine of elaborate movements. Sometimes the synchronized swimmers are also given individual opportunities for displaying their synchronized swimming moves in the water, depending upon the talent of the synchronized swimmer. There are both male synchronized swimmers as well as female synchronized swimmers.

The sport of synchronized swimming has emerged out as an art and the artistic quality attached to this discipline makes it a visual pleasure for the eyes. In relation to this factor of appeal, there is not a dearth of synchronized swimming pictures, which could be found in magazines, books and sometimes also on the World Wide Web. The pictures of synchronized swimming contain all types of pictures displaying all kinds of synchronized swimming moves that have been perfected in the light of specific synchronized swimming techniques. The popularity and allure of synchronized swimming has increased to such an extent that there are synchronized swimming graphics along with synchronized swimming clip art that is available in a number of software programs. The popularity and appeal of this very activity could be realized from the fact that this sport is one that has taken the status of being included as an Olympic sport on the international scene. Through Olympic synchronized swimming, the sport is gaining in mass appeal, creating celebrities and artistes of its own. When you talk about celebrities in synchronized swimming Esther Williams is a name worthy of mention as well as praise.

There is a specific synchronized swimming description for practicing every single move in synchronized swimming. For that matter, guidelines are given by expert choreographers and in order to explain to the student in a better way about the intricacies of each move, pictorial descriptions serve as quite a helpful technique. In other words using a synchronized swimming picture would do a much better job of giving insight than would mere verbal illustration accomplish.

As for the skills required for synchronized swimming, first of all your water skills (swimming skills or your ability to balance yourself in the water) should be excellent. In addition to that, physical and mental strength as well as physical and mental coordination is required, both of which should be of a very high degree. Besides strength and coordination, now comes the more difficult aspects, which get polished with time and practice. These traits (aspects) are inclusive of endurance (both physiological and psychological), a great level of flexibility (once again both physical and mental), grace, and artistry and of course a perfect sense of timing. In addition to all of these aspects, there is one more ability that requires utmost excellence and anything less than perfect could ruin the entire performance. That very aspect is breath control specially when you are upside down under the surface of the water. Previously referred to as water ballet, synchronized swimming emerged in the early part of the twentieth century in Canada, North America. In the initial years and even in the current scenario, the sport of synchronized swimming was practiced by women on a usual basis yet there are instances when one would see male synchronized swimmers displaying their moves. All in all, synchronized swimming is not just a sport, its an art, which only very few talented people could master.
