Water Polo
As simple as any sport could be, water polo definitely takes the honors here, the simple nature of the game, giving it the status of one of the least complicated and consequently most pleasurable games in the long and diverse list of various water sports. Being one of the water sports that entails a team game, the sport of waterpolo has two teams competing against each other, each team having about six players who are known as field players while they are being accompanied by one goalkeeper. With the number of goals as the prime and exclusive criterion for the decision of victory, the water polo rules declare that very team to be the winner who has scored the most number of goals. Just like any other sport, the importance of abiding by rules is of prime importance in water polo. Any water polo team who is playing a match should ensure to abide by the guidelines of the game, the violation of which could result in serious consequences.
One of the most basic requirements in the course of playing the sport of water polo is the ability to swim. The six water polo players in any team, must know how to swim as they are required to swim end to end of a swimming pool (where water polo is played) that measures about 30 meters. Not only that but the flow of their movements should be constant during the entire carriage of the game. This is one of the most important basics of water polo. However the nature of swimming movements differs from what exactly are the conventional swimming strokes. Here in the sport of water polo, the movement that is applied during the stretch of the game is referred to as front crawl. In this front crawl stroke, the players have to keep their heads above the surface of the water in order to have a keen observation of the field. Then there is the backward stroke of swimming movements, which are incorporated in the general scenario by the defending field players who use this style of swimming to track the advancing attackers as well as the goalie, making sure about the location of the ball at all times. As for the goalie, he/ she sits in an upright position, incorporating the eggbeater leg motions, which involves short arm strokes instead of the long straight arm strokes. These movements allow the player to have a keen observation of the play and switch the position whenever the situation calls out for it. Each and every field player is allowed to touch the ball with only one hand at a time. Therefore they should work on their skills of being able to hold and catch the ball from any direction of the pool. All of this applies in all water polo games be it a boys’ water polo game or a girls’ water polo game.
