Bodyboarding

In the truest and simplistic of comprehensions, bodyboarding could be conveniently categorized as a specific form of wave riding. The board on which a person bodyboards is basically inclusive of a small piece of foam, that is rectangular in shape, its form resembling that of a hydrodynamic form. Basically the bodyboard could be easily moulded to a variety of different riding styles in accordance with the size of the rider or whatever form he/she is comfortable with. Over the most recent couple of decades, the sport of body boarding has been developing with such rapid progression in terms of popularity as well as acknowledgement. It was for centuries that a great many Polynesians had ridden the giant waves of the ocean on their wooden boards, which they referred to as ‘paipo’ boards, the thickness of which was not that thick. However the present day invention of bodyboards is a direct consequence of Tom Morey in the early half of the decade of the seventies. The initial intention of Tom Morey was to discover a way that was fun and friendly in nature for the prospect of waveriding so that its accessibility increases even more for a wider part of the community. The company that Tom’s invention was licensed to was known as Wham-O, who were also the manufacturers of the Frisbee.

In the initial phases of its presence in the market, Tom Morey’s board was sold to the general mass market in the name of the ‘boogie’ board. The invention was an instant success and the mass production of the bodyboards (known as boogie boards in that very era) was met with eagerness by the public, many of whom were aiming to be bodyboarders. The wave of interest in the general public led to the entry of the commercial element in the sport and soon the bodyboarding sport had its own share of celebrity heroes such as Jack Lindholm as well as Ben Severson along with Pat Caldwell and also Mike Stewart.

There are many differences between a bodyboard and a surfboard. The first and foremost difference is the fact that while surfboards are firm to hold, bodyboards are made out of a core that is foam like. In addition to that the length of the bodyboard is also shorter in comparison to the surfboard that is much longer in comparison. This ‘core’ foam is surrounded by a plastic bottom while the top of the foam is covered by a foam top that is even softer in nature and is referred to as the deck. This very core of the bodyboard is made up of dow or polythen or arcel and most recently polypropylene.

The sport of bodyboarding has increased in popularity to such an extent that there are many websites on the World Wide Web that offer bodyboarding wallpapers. Not only that but there are a number of websites that give guidance and tips on bodyboarding big waves along with many cute and clever bodyboarding tricks. Also there are many businesses that manufacture bodyboards as well as other necessary accessories that are needed for awesome bodyboarding. These pieces or accessories are accompanied by a bodyboard bag in which they are safely kept.

One of the most famous brands producing bodyboards is the BZ bodyboards brand. Anyone who is familiar with the sport of bodyboarding would recognized a BZ bodyboard wherever and whenever he/she finds it. The bodyboarding wipeouts are very convenient to handle once you have got the right amount of practice and experience.

Without these two factors, it would be hard to control and ride the big waves on a bodyboard. Another very important name when it comes to bodyboards is the Riptide Bodyboard.

Overall the sport of bodyboarding has managed to create its own niche audience, which has a universal presence, specially in those places where the beaches are easily accessible by the general public.
