Water Skiing

The sport of water skiing is one of the most prominent names in the list of water sports. In order to water ski, a person has to learn how to pull behind a motor boat on a specific body of water, which could range from an ocean or the sea to the lake or a river. It does not necessarily have to be one individual as the sport of water skiing could also be categorized as a team sport. In the general scenario, the person who water skis is called a water skier and has to wear one or more than one skis. As it is, the surface area of the water ski maintains the fluency of the ski skimming along the surface of the water, which allows the skier to maintain an upright position of standing while he/ she holds the tow rope.

The boats that are in front of the water skier are referred to as water ski boats. As for the history of the sport of water skiing, it was the year 1922 when Ralph Samuelson strapped about two boards to his feet, rigging a clothesline up to his boat. This took place on Lake Pepin, which was located in the Lake City, the one in the state of Minnesota.

In the initial years of its existence, the sport of water skiing did not have a very high profile presence in terms of popularity. As a matter of fact, it was considered an activity, not even a sport. With Samuelson being its daredevil pioneer for a period of many years, he took the initiative to spread the word about water skiing and for that matter, he incorporated several measures such as taking his stunts on the road while performing shows from the state of Detroit to the state of Florida. However when the popularity of the sport of water skiing increased to a large extent, many people claimed that they were the pioneers of the sport. It was in the year 1966 that the American Water Ski Association acknowledged Samuelson as the real pioneer of the sport of water skiing.

With the ongoing increase in popularity of the sport of water skiing, the answer to the question as to how many Americans water ski is changing its answers in terms of quantity. As a direct consequence of this popularity, the demand for water ski equipment such as the water ski tube or water ski vests has also increased. For those who could not buy brand new water skis, there is always the option of buying used water skis or discounted water skis manufactured by cheaper brands. Some of the most widely sought water ski equipment brand is inclusive of Connelly water skis and Ho water skis. For those who are beginners at the sport of water skiing, they could always seek the help of water ski reviews, which give authentic information about what brand are trustworthy and which ones are the defective ones.

There are also antique water skis available at vintage sports retail outlets, few of them being extremely valuable and bearing the status of collector’s items. There are also many water skiing lakes, which are meant exclusively for the sport to be played by those who are enthused water skiing fans. During holiday times or water skiing seasons, some lakes are also decorated for commercial purposes such as 100 glow light sticks for water ski are put to give the aura a glowing look.

Overall the sport of water skiing is increasing in popularity day by day and the fun-loving nature of it just contributes more to its endearing charm.
